A small fest I participated in last year is up and running again this year. The tnl_first_time fest is looking for prompts and so far has gotten very few.

A little information about the fest:
In essence, however, the goal is for authors to try something new. So...

Normally write lengthy fics? Five, six, ten thousand words per chapter? Why not try writing drabbles or a perfectly timed one-shot?

Normally write slash, but curious about femmeslash? Or het? Or gen? Or vice versa? Then try it!

Normally write humour? Darkfic? Then why not try writing your OTP in a different way?

Normally write Snupin? Dramione? Want to stay in your 'type' of ship, stay in slash or het, but maybe play with some different characters? Why not try Snarry or Draco/Luna?

I receieved a couple of awesome fics in return for donations I made to Haiti earthquake relief:

the_flic had started a hilarious Draco/Al fic that was written all in letter form. For my donation, I asked if she could do more in that arc. She went above and beyond and finished it!! It's just all sorts of awesomeness. The start of the letters are "here" and the continuation and ending are "here". Sooo worth the read and so imaginitive in the way she presented the letters (on parchment!).

And then, I asked remus_lives23 for Sirius/Bill and she gave me a wonderful, thought provoking fic titled: "Shadows and Light". Another great read (as I always expect from her) with such depth for a short fic.

And then (not Haiti related), emzlovesharry drew an amazing NSFW Hugo/Al using inspiration from my fic "Unwanted Inheritance" for hp_art_tales. You can find it "here". It is so damn sexy and tender all at the same time. GUH!!!!

I also won an auction at help_haiti. So, tmkline is going to write Remus/Draco for me. Should be awesome!!

Haiti: I am always amazed at the generosity of the fanfic universe. help_haiti has way too many auctions to even sort through. I want to make some bids, but I'm overwhelmed by the total amount of fic/art/items for auction. So, if anyone on my flist has items on auction over there, please post a link as I'll probably not find it otherwise.

I'm also trying to figure out if I want to offer fanfic for auction. I'm still writing a Snarry for Marta (I'm sure she's tired of reading about how I'm still working on it - but I am), and since I'm looking for a full-time job, I'm not sure how much time I'll soon have to devote to the HP Universe.

Job Search: In the job search realm - the Civil Service test I took has netted me two interviews already. I should hear one way or the other about one of them by the end of this week. Last night I dreamed I got that job and was training for it. I think the other interview went reasonably well, but it's at a school and if I make the first cut (top three) then I'll have to go through two more phases.

Recs! If you haven't been watching the Snape Potter Daft Day Smut Swap, you may have missed some gems. Eeyore9990's "Animal Husbandry" is just hilarious - don't let the 'sheep fisting' turn you off - no actual beastiality.

And Alisanne's wonderful Snape as a perfumer fic, "Scent of a Man" melted me.

The fic I wrote for that fest hasn't posted yet, but since mine is dark, it might not appeal to many when it does post. *shrugs*

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and will have an awesome New Year. I was on vacation last week (mainly just stayed at home and relaxed/spent time with family) and pretty much ignored the internet/LJ. Since I'm way behind on posts, and probably won't catch up, please let me know if you posted something I should see. ty

I have a job interview tomorrow. While the job I have now has been wonderful, I have been on part-time due to the economy for a couple of years now and my family could really use the extra money from me working full time. To that end, I took the local county Civil Service test for Clerk/Keyboard specialist. I ended up quite high on the County list and have so far had two canvas letters sent to me to guage my interest in jobs. One came through with an interview. So, wish me luck!
