A/N: OK, I should point out that though the prompt says “traditional winter solstice celebration” it doesn’t specify which one. There are a number of them, apparently (according to Wikipedia, which is always accurate of course). I decided to use the Cornish Mummer’s Day celebration as well as the Scottish Hogmanay celebration (and ‘first footing’). It should be noted that ‘first footing’ comes from a Norse tradition and it is said to be very good luck if the first footer is tall and dark haired (particularly because the Norse were fair-haired; opposites are good). I think that speaks for itself. I hope you like it! Merry Yule everyone!

Since I'm behind on my writing and reading, and since like I just said, I wasn't around the computer much this weekend, if I missed a post/fic any of you posted that I should see, give me a nudge. I'm probably not going to find the time to go back through the posts I missed.

I've been watching for wish lists for people on my f-list, and when possible, I try to grant one of their wishes, but I hadn't planned to do one myself.

But then I thought of something I could really use (besides porn, of course).

Recipes!

I seem to be in such a rut when it comes to making dinners for my family. So... what I'm looking for are quick, easy, delicious recipes that I can make when I drag home after work and immediately hear: "What's for dinner?"

So, here are a few likes and dislikes:

No seafood/fish (I have one in the family who is allergic to shellfish and another (ME) who gets queasy at just the smell of fish)
Beef, poultry, pork, vegetarian are all win.
I have tons of left over turkey in the freezer if anyone has good recipes for that.
We enjoy almost any cuisine except I'm not all that in love with oriental spices.
Any casserole that can be put together beforehand and stashed in the fridge until it's time to pop it in the oven would be great.
Crockpot/slow cooker recipes are FTW

So... if you have a recipe to share, I would LOVE to get them.

Five years and five wins.

If you read my post Wednesday evening, you know I smashed my lip and tore up the inside of my mouth a bit. *sigh*

I'm feeling better, though still sore. I was able to eat Thanksgiving dinner, at least, so YAY!

Oh, and if you want to know anything about my relationship with Hubby... after I was able to pull the ice away from my mouth and had stemmed the bleeding and wasn't pacing around moaning anymore, I looked at Hubby and said, "No blow jobs for you for a few days." His eyes went wide, and he said, "I know! I was just thinking the same thing." *snerks* (and we've been married for 24 years... *shakes head*).

I always buy my two boys a small gift for Thanksgiving. This year, I got the 20 year old a couple of movies he wanted and the 14 year old a 1985 bio of Iron Maiden (Yes, I have a mini headbanger in the house). The surprising thing was that older son gave all of us presents as well (he has a good job and money burning a hole in his pocket). His father and brother got movies, but me? Yes me... I got the Glee Season One soundtrack CD. So how much like a teen fangirl do I feel now? Much. *nods*

So now I can drool over the voice and cover photo of Cory Monteith just as damned often as I want. Funny thing, when I'm not mesmerized by his sexiness on the TV, I can hear that he's really not the strongest singer. Ah well.

I took runner-up in last week's sortinghatdrabs contest. The pairing was Percy/Any Death Eater, and the prompt was 'piercing'.

After leaving work this afternoon, I made the obligatory day-before-Thanksgiving stop at the grocery store to pick up a couple of things I'd forgotten for the feast. I was particualary happy to return to my car to find it was as I left it. You see, it was the day before Thanksgiving last year (or was it the year before?) that I stopped at the same store and my car was keyed while I was shopping.

So, riding that high, I came home, got out of the car, shut the door, walked back to the trunk, realized I hadn't pulled the trunk release lever, walked back to the car door, opened said door in a huff (because really, I had dinner to make and pies to bake and here I am forgetting to unlatch the trunk), and whacked myself in the face with the car door.

Yep.

My lip is split open and swollen to about twice it's size. That little bit of skin that holds the top lip to the gum -- yeah, not so much anymore.

*sigh*

Wow! I just checked my journal and it's been over a month since I last posted fic. I have been writing a little HP, but the last three pieces I've written have been for fests or challenges.

Plus, I'm writing in nanowrimo for the fifth year in a row. I'm keeping to pace, but just barely, but still, I shouldn't ruin my five year winning streak. :)

I am still slowly writing a Snarry for sra_danvers. This is reminding me of when I wrote "Climbing the Stairway". It took me sooooo long to finish that one (even though it's not very long), but in the end it turned out to be one I'm very proud of. I hope I can say the same for this one when I finally do finish it. I'm glad Marta has the patience of a saint.

To try to get my HP writing muse back in line, I signed up for sortinghatdrabs this week. The pairing is Percy/Any Death Eater. The drabbles are up for voting "here". If anyone wants to guess which is mine (voting ends tonight however, so not all that much time), I will write a 100 word drabble to the first five who are correct. See, I really am trying to get that HP muse back....

There are only eight drabbles in the competition and all are under 500 words. Some good stuff there.

I'll screen comments on this post just in case anyone wants to guess.

Otherwise, I hope all my USA flist have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow.
