(kinda) Snarry birthday drabble for maggie2mw  
[info]maggie2mw, Happy Birthday! Sorry I'm a day early in posting, but this was the only time I knew I'd have the time to post.

Since you so nicely commented to my OTP post, I wanted to write you a drabble in your stated OTP. Thanks to [info]bk7brokemybrain for looking it over!

Comfort

Ron was the only one who knew Harry hid the book under his pillow. But even Ron didn’t understand why. He thought it was to keep the book safe, and that was reasonable. After all, anyone who had the book held a certain power.

The truth was that Harry kept the book near at hand so he could pull it out at night, curl his body around it, and cradle it over his heart. The sharp angles and hard planes might be a poor substitute for flesh and blood, but for now it was all he had.

With the old potions text securely in his arms, Harry could imagine he was holding his prince — his Half-Blood Prince. Only then could he smile and drift away.

This is so sweet. I love knowing that Harry's Prince substitute would turn out to be exactly as hard, sharp and pokey as the real thing.

Thanks! When I wrote this, I was think of how Snape could be described exactly like that book.

Aww! This is sad. Poor lonely Harry, holding onto his text book at night...

At first I read it as 'that's all he had anymore', so it's not quite so dark as I thought. But, still...

Haha, now my brain is going wild making up imaginary contexts for the drabble. Down, brain!

Wow, totally speechless… Best birthday present ever!! Thank you so much!

Firstly I have to say sorry that I did not comment before now, I only saw this today!! Been so flat out with uni, had no time for my snarry treats :(, and after a few days off LJ your post got buried under soooo many pages… *I really need to organize my friends page (ashamed)* I’m soooo sorry, I only saw this post when I googled my LJ username, and guess what, this post is ranked higher than my LJ page!!

Back to the fic…

Ron is Ron, he is the friend, he knows the secret, he keeps the secret, but he doesn’t understand. Harry’s isolation and loneliness is what I visualize when I read the books. I want Harry to find someone that knows him, which I don’t think the Ginny from the books does. This is probably the main reason that I read so much fan fiction.
I love this Harry, I wish he may find his happiness.

I'm glad you stumbled across the fic! And don't worry about the late commenting, I'm just glad you enjoyed it.

I think I like to see Harry paired with an older man, like Snape, in fanfiction because I want Harry to finally have someone to take care of him. And, you're right, I don't think Ginny would be the right person for that.

Anyway, I hope your birthday was wonderful, darling!

And thanks again for responding to my OTP post (I'm having fun writing birthday drabbles and ficlets because of that post: There'll be three Snarrys just in April. LOL).
